Lynchburg Well Water Testing Options
There is more than one way to test private well water around Lynchburg. Virginia Tech drinking water clinics, an independent laboratory and a treatment provider's in-home screening serve different purposes. Use this guide to choose the right route for routine learning, a home purchase or a specific concern. Lynchburg Well Water is a referral service, not a laboratory, clinic organizer or water-treatment contractor.
Virginia Tech and Virginia Cooperative Extension drinking water clinics
The Virginia Household Water Quality Program works through Virginia Cooperative Extension offices to offer drinking water clinics. Participants obtain a kit, collect samples according to instructions, return them locally and receive results with interpretation resources. Check the current clinic schedule and Virginia Cooperative Extension registration system; ask the local office about the current kit fee, collection instructions and next available date. Do not assume the referral form registers you for a clinic. VAHWQP clinic description.
The 2026 clinic sample-collection date for Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and the City of Lynchburg was April 15, 2026. That date is past, not an upcoming appointment. Clinics typically run February–November; contact your local Extension office for its next clinic rather than waiting for this site's referral process. Dates and registration are published by the program, not controlled by Lynchburg Well Water. 2026 clinic schedule and contacts.

What the clinic analysis covers
The program lists analysis for constituents including iron, manganese, copper, lead, arsenic, sodium, fluoride, sulfate, nitrate, pH, hardness, total dissolved solids, total coliform and E. coli. Read the current program description for the full panel and ask whether it addresses your particular concern. A measured hardness or dissolved-solids value alone cannot answer every question about bacteria or health-related constituents. VAHWQP analysis panel.
Sampling details and timing matter. Ask the organizer which tap to use, how to handle each bottle and when samples must be returned. If the purpose is a closing, ask the lender and appraiser whether this clinic report and collection process will be accepted before registering. Our home-purchase well inspection guide explains why inspection scope, laboratory work and lender instructions should be coordinated. Virginia Tech guidance.
Oakwood Scientific Laboratory: independent testing
Oakwood Scientific Laboratory describes itself as an independent laboratory offering state-certified bacteriological water testing, and states that it does not sell treatment equipment. This certification description applies to its stated laboratory service—not to Lynchburg Well Water and not to an implied endorsement of every possible test. Confirm the laboratory's current certification and the scope needed for your report when ordering. Oakwood's Lynchburg-area testing information.
Oakwood lists sample bottle pickup through independent pharmacies. Its local page includes Hometown Pharmacy, 196 Amelon Square, Madison Heights, VA 24572, and Hometown Pharmacy, 199 Old Courthouse Road, Appomattox, VA 24522. These are third-party sample bottle locations, not our offices. Call ahead to confirm bottles, hours and whether sample return is available before traveling. Oakwood bottle pickup locations.
Oakwood bottles by mail, published fees and turnaround
Bottles can also be requested by mail by calling Oakwood at 800-582-5211. Its request-bottle page lists bacteria testing at $65, chemistry testing at $130 and both at $195. These are the laboratory's published fees, not local treatment prices or charges collected by this site; prices may change. Ask Oakwood to confirm the total, test panel and any special handling or rush charges before ordering. Oakwood bottle requests and published fees.
Oakwood says results and the bill are mailed within about a week. Treat that as its published estimate, not a guaranteed deadline from us; ask when the timing starts and whether your required report can arrive before a purchase deadline. Follow the laboratory's own bottle, collection and delivery instructions rather than improvising with a household container. Oakwood sample and results instructions.
Other certified laboratories and urgent concerns
The VAHWQP FAQ links to the state's certified drinking-water laboratory list. Use the VAHWQP testing FAQ for the program's current link if the list changes. Confirm that a laboratory is certified for the tests you actually need, accepts homeowner samples and can meet the relevant collection and reporting requirements. Virginia Tech guidance.
Do not wait for a future clinic when you suspect unsafe water. Seek prompt advice from the local health department and a suitable laboratory, particularly after flooding, well damage or a positive bacteria result. The bacteria guide distinguishes source investigation from disinfection and treatment. This website does not monitor water safety or provide emergency response. VDH private well guidance.
If results show a problem, request a treatment quote
Keep the full report, collection date, sample location and any laboratory advice. Compare iron and manganese treatment, corrosion and pH options, softening or bacteria treatment only against the identified issue. A clear sample or improved taste does not establish that every contaminant has been addressed. Virginia Tech guidance.
Use the existing test and quote request form to request a connection to an independent licensed local well professional, or call (954) 319-6684. For pump, inspection or drilling requests, choose “Other” as the main problem. The referral is free; professional visits, laboratory testing, repairs and drilling may have separate charges. Confirm scope and availability directly. This referral service does not perform the work or promise emergency dispatch.
